Tracking Women’s Division Legislative Petitions

  1. Environmental Racism, Petition #40831-CS-R9, Pg. 194, Volume 2, Section 1
(No position.  This petition has merit.  However, several points are provided for balance in the RENEW/Good News analysis of the Women’s Division petitions.)

  1. Environmental Justice for a Sustainable Future, Petition #40826-CS-R7, Pg. 190, Volume 2, Section 1
(No position.  Caution is needed to avoid radical environmentalism.  Additional sources for environmental issues is provided in the RENEW/Good News analysis.)

  1. Support Reparations for African Americans, Petition #40839-CS-R56, Page 201, Volume 2, Section 1
(Oppose.  The RENEW/Good News analysis provides a strong argument against this    resolution.)

  1. The Status of Women, Petition #40827-CS-R181, Pg. 216, Volume 2, Section 1
(Oppose.  This lengthy resolution is given a lengthy response in the RENEW/Good News analysis of the Women’s Division petitions.  This petition, like several submitted  by the Women’s Division, is utilized to press for the passage of highly controversial legislation and United Nation’s treaties including the Equal  Rights Amendment (ERA),  the  Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women  (CEDAW) and the Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).

  1. Teen Sexual Identity and Suicide Risk, Petition #40901-CS-R9999, $375,000, Volume 2, Section 1
(Oppose.  This petition uses insufficient statistics to push for the expenditure of  $375,000 for teen suicide related homosexual support programs.  An accompanying petition on this topic, Petition #40825, changes the Discipline to allow for financial and   programmatic support for teen related homosexual programs.  The RENEW/Good News analysis strongly refutes the faulty documentation used in the Women’s Division petitions.)

  1. Expansive Biblical Language, Petition #40071-FO-R321, Pg. 814, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose/Amend.  This is another attempt to inject feminine language for God into          this resolution.  This attempt was defeated at General Conference 2000 by an amendment to the original petition submitted by the Women’s Division. This change should be rejected, with the resolution left as is, or amended as follows:

     Delete Whereas #2, #3 & #4
Therefore, be it resolved….line 2: Change “metaphorical” to “figurative”
Delete “including masculine/feminine metaphors for God”
Be it further resolved, line 2: Change “metaphors” to “figures of speech”

  1. Teen Suicide, Petition #40825-GA-Par. 806.9, Pg. 920, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose.  This petition attempts to broaden program ministries to practicing homosexuals under the guise of teen suicide.  This is addressed under #5 above.)

  1. Affirmative Action, Petition #40837—GM-R150, Pg. 1076, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose or no position.  Affirmative Action has shown itself to be a faulty system as attested to by many experts.  See the RENEW/Good Analysis for support information.)

  1. Rape in Times of Conflict and War, Petition #40910-GM-R314, Pg. 1099, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose because this petition is primarily being used to change the resolution to provide an endorsement for the International Criminal Court.)

  1. Compensation for Comfort Women, Petition #40824-GM-R9999, Pg. 1117, Volume 2, Section 2
(No position.  This is a valid concern.  The RENEW/Good News analysis of this petition raises some questions delegates may want to clarify before voting on this issue.)

  1. Global Racism and Xenophobia, Petition #40835-GM-R999, Pg. 1118, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose.  This petition should be opposed primarily on the basis of its opposition to evangelism.  It is based on a false assumption that all people are “members of the household of God,” rather than on the understanding that those who are “in Christ” are    members of the household of God.  All people are created in the image and likeness of  God and have intrinsic worth, but not all are redeemed.  This petition is also high energy with limited results.)

  1. Greed, Petition #40904-GM-R9999, Pg. 1120, Volume 2, Section 2
(No position/Oppose.  This petition has strong socialistic overtones and advocates for the redistribution of wealth.)

  1. Protection of Water, Petition #40906-GM-R9999, Pg. 1121, Volume 2, Section 2
(No position.  Concern should be noted regarding the promotion of the UN Summit on Sustainable Development.)

  1. Privatization, Petition #40908-GM-R9999, Pg. 1122, Volume 2, Section 2
(No position.  Concern should be raised in committee about the promotion of a national and international government provided health care system.

  1. In Defense of International Law & Compensation: Cornerstone of Multilateralism, Petition #40909-GM-R9999, Pg. 1124, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose.  This resolution is a tirade against the United States.  It is filled with     misinformation against US policies.  This resolution is used to call for ratification of numerous objectionable UN treaties and the International Criminal Court.

Additional Petitions to Oppose or Support

Retain 255.4, Petition #40667-LC-Par. 255.4, Pg. 1384, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose.  Passage of this petition would prohibit the proposed changes to allow for supplemental women’s ministries.)

Priority to UMW in Local Church Women’s Ministry, Petition #41301-LC-Par. 255.4, Pg. 1384, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose.  This petition favors UMW over other local women’s ministries.  This, despite the fact that the women’s ministries would come under the auspices of the local church while the UMW does not, but rather comes under the Women’s Division.  This is an unjust proposal.)

UN Treaties, Petition #40530-GM-R9999, Pg. 1109, Volume 2, Section 2
(Oppose.  This petition is an endorsement of controversial UN treaties.)
