For the past six years, Trinity on the Hill UMC and other partnering churches in the Augusta, Georgia area have held a community event that brings hundreds of women together for a day of worship, teaching, and fellowship. This year the guest speaker was Liz Curtis Higgs, the best-selling author who wrote "Bad Girls of the Bible". She is an engaging speaker who brings the word of God to life as women laugh, cry, and grow into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ.
The event was held Saturday, October 3, 2009 and was held at Warren Baptist Church in Augusta, Georgia. Over 500 women from 103 different churches came from all over the state to spend a beautiful day that glorified the Lord. Liz delivered excellent teaching from the book of Ruth and applied it to women today, in a style that blended truth, humor, and song. Liz protends that trusting God is the hardest part of a Christian's walk, especially for women who tend to have control issues. As Psalm 34 states, God is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. No matter how bad things get or how much sin we have in our life, God is ready to come and shelter us beneath His wings. The Bible is all we will ever need as our guide book for life--always relevant, with truth that stands the test of time.
Liz also shared some of her testimony of how she came to know Christ after living a life of alcohol and drug abuse. Liz exemplifies the true meaning of a transformed life and what phenomenal things can happen when we invite Jesus into our heart and life. Liz and her husband Bill are active members of their United Methodist Church in Louisville, Kentucky, and travel all over the world as Liz speaks at women's conferences and large events.
